Speed limit
There are different speed limits on Iceland's roads. You'll find the most common ones down below.
In urban areas the general speed limit is 50 km/h. Howere aroud some schools you'll see the speed limit drop down to 30 km/h
On gravel roads the speed limit is 80 km/h. Some gravel roads are in rough conditions so please drive responsibly.
The speed limit is 90 km/h on paved roads outside urban areas. If you are towing a trailer please note that the speed limit reduces to 80 km/h.
*Please note: Special warning signs indicate danger ahead, such as sharp bends, narrow bridges and blind hills, but there are generally no separate signs indicating that you should reduce speed.
Violation of these rules can result in substantial fines!
